The X-Series of Total Percussion Kits features a revolutionary new concept in student mallet percussion! Beginning students start with an instrument that features full size professional quality keys, but only the range they need to get started. The result is an instrument that sounds terrific but is extremely portable. Interchangable aluminum or rosewood bars allow the same instrument to be either a xylophone, bells or vibes!
When ready the X-Series expands to a midsize and finally a full 3 octave instrument with the quality to be useful for a lifetime! Students simply keep the bars they have and add on as the need arises. The result is an instrument of high quality that is not only portable, but also very affordable!
The problem with most student instruments....
Music educators everywhere agree that a "total percussion" approach is the most desirable method for teaching beginning percussionists. Many teachers find, however, that the instruments currently available make this goal difficult to achieve. Beginning mallet instruments generally have two problems. They are TONE QUALITY and PORTABILITY. Until now, real percussion instruments have been large, difficult to transport and expensive. To solve this problem, manufacturers reduce the size and thickness of the bars. The result is an instrument that is somewhat portable, but the tone is poor and the narrow bar width inhibits proper technical growth.
In order to make them portable and affordable, most student percussion kits feature a set of "mini bells" . The problem is that they look a lot like toys, instead of real instruments, and have small keys that make technical and reading development difficult in addition to having a poor tone quality. Taking lessons on an instrument like this is a lot like studying piano on an instrument with 1/2 size keys.
Full size instruments sound good and allow for proper technical development but are expensive and difficult to transport to and from school
